It lightly rained in the AM.  I fertilized with 30 Tbs to 6 gallons of water of Neptune's Harvest.  I felt no need to water since rain is predicted for the next three days.

In the PM I finished weeding around the 5th and 6th set of secondary vines.  I then fertilized them with 2 Tbs of miracle grow in 2 gallons of water (1/2 gallon per vine).  Next I buried the vines in compost.  My watering for the day consisted of soaker hoses for 30 minutes and watering the entire plant under the leaves for a total of 15 minutes (60 gallons).

Today at 7 AM I went to fertilize and bury more vines with compost.  I used 2 Tbs miracle grow in 2 gallons of water to foliar feed the entire plant.  I used 1 Tbs of miracle grow to 1 gallon of water to water the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th secondary vines as a drench (1 gallon for each secondary).  After fertilizing the secondary vines, I buried them with compost and then watered over the compost for 10 minutes.

Today around 5 PM I finished weeding around the main vine and the first 4 sets of secondary vines.  I followed the weeding by fertilizing the main vine and stump as a drench with 2 Tbs of miracle grow (15-30-15) in 2 gallons of water.  I also fertilized the first set of secondary vines with 2 Tbs miracle grow in 2 gallon of water (1 Tbs for each secondary vine).  Next I watered with the soaker hoses for 42 minutes.  Lastly I buried the main vine, stump, and 1st set of secondary vines with compost.  After burying the vines I watered over the compost for 14 minutes (56 gallons) with the hose (watering with the hose is 4 gallons/minute).

I watered for 1 hour with soaker hoses and fertilized with Neptune's Harvest in the PM.  I used 20 Tbs of Neptune's Harvest in 4 gallons of water as a foliar feed and drench.  I also pulled the tall grass and weeds from around the main vine, stump, and the 1st set of secondary vines.  I have not had time this year to keep up with the weeding, so much of the water and nutrients that should have been going to the pumpkin were going to weeds and grass that was about a foot high.  On the other hand, the tall grass helped to shade the ground.

     891 Tanner & 505 Sundstrom

When I got up this morning it was sprinkling and very cool.  The cool temps the past few days along with on and off showers don't seem to be hurting the pumpkin growth as I had previously thought, especially with the 505 Sundstrom which grew 10 lbs yesterday.

8-15-05 - CLICK HERE TO SEE THE PUMPKIN MEASUREMENTS AND PICTURES

     891 Tanner & 505 Sundstrom

It sprinkled in the AM and was overcast all day.  It seems growth may be slowed by a combination of many leaves being destroyed and the lack of sun and warmth the past few days.  Hopefully things clear up.  Brought in the SSV1 in the PM and weighed it on my scale.  It was 123 lbs actual and 122 lbs estimated from an OTT of 174.5

It rained early this morning.  The pumpkin on the main vine of the 891 Tanner is picking up steam, I am just hoping it does not grow too fast and lead to a split.

7-2-05

     891 Tanner

We had heavy rains on the 30th so I re-sprayed Sevin today.  Male flowers have bloomed that past two days and there is a female about 8 feet out on the main as well as 8 feet out on a few of the secondaries.  I have been pinching off all tertiaries.  I have not noticed any insects on the leaves, but I have found quite a few leaves are being partially eaten.

     505 Sundstrom

     Sprayed Sevin.

6-29-05

    891 Tanner

I fertilized the 891 with 2 gallons of peters.

6-26-05

     891 Tanner

Watered the base of the 891 Tanner for 10 minutes and I watered the main and secondaries with the double hose for 15 minutes.

6-25-05

     Light rain tonight

6-21-05

     891 Tanner

I watered the base for 11 minutes.

6-19-05

     891 Tanner

I watered the 891 Tanner with 3 gallons of water in the morning and in the afternoon I added soaker hoses in a 6' circle around the main vine.  Right now they are above ground, but I will cover them with compost and topsoil.  I am also adding soaker hoses along the length of the main vine.  I dug a hole  where the main vine is going to be so I can bury these hoses right away.  I watered the base tonight via soaker hose for 25 minutes.  This got the ground very wet.  I probably want to lower the time.  I also sprayed the plant with seven and added 3oz of Bayer insecticide to a gallon of water and poured it around the main vine and base.  I originally planted my seeds in miracle grow soil with sustained release fertilizer, so I have not fertilized yet.  At my next watering I will start with a 24-12-12 fertilizer to really get vine growth.

     505.5 Sundstrom

This plant is looking pathetic, but I still watered it with about a gallon of water

6-18-05

Today I took the green house off of the 891 Tanner

6-15-05

Planted the 505.5.  I had waited to long to plant the 505.5 and it was becoming root bound.  The vine also partially snapped.  We will see how

it does.  The 891 main vine is about 4 feet long.  I have been pinching off all secondaries for the first 3 feet.  Tonight I buried the vines and watered

the 891 with three gallons of water.  After planting the 505.5 I watered it with one and a half gallons.  We also had light showers tonight around

11:00pm

6-10-05

Watered the 891 Tanner with two gallons of water.  Today there was a light shower

6-8-05

Watered the 891 Tanner with two gallons of water.  There has not been rain since the 891 Tanner went into the ground

6-6-05

The 891 Tanner 2004 was moved from its pot, into the garden and the 505.5 Sundstrom 2001 has its first true leaf.  Here are some pictures from 6-5 of the patch preparation.  Picture 1     Picture 2

5-30-05

The 891 Tanner 2004 is still doing well and the 505.5 Sundstrom 2001 is just about to break ground.

5-18-05 @ 10pm

The 925 Neily 2004, 673 Kilbert 2001 & 726.6 Eisenhaur 2001 failed to germinate in peat pots and in paper towels.  They are being throw away.  The 906 Tanner 2004 germinated but was deformed and did not grow.  The first true leaf just withered and died.  I am just going to leave this plant alone to see what happens.  I also planted a 505.5 Sundstrom 2001 tonight in hope of a back up plant.  I am putting it in a wet paper towel in a plastic baggy overnight.  I will take the seed from the paper towel in the morning and place it in dirt.  The 891 Tanner 2004 germinated and is going well.

5-13

The 891 Tanner 2004 broke ground.

4-29

    Seeds planted in peat pots.  Five seeds were planted (925 Neily 2004, 673 Kilbert 2001 726.6 Eisenhaur 2001, 891 Tanner 2004, 906 Tanner 2004 )
